چکیده

A lower bound and the union upper bound of the bit error rate (BER) of the maximum-likelihood (ML) receiver of an optical On/Off-Keying (OOK) system is derived in this paper. Combining the two bounds, the BER of the ML receiver can be estimated.

Chernoff Bound on the Probability of Error for Combined Linear-decision Feedback Sequence Estimation

Decision feedback sequence estimation (DFSE) is a reduced state alternative to maximum likelihood sequence estimation (MLSE). One of the most popular technique to improve the performance of DFSE is to process the received signal by a linear pre-filter prior to DFSE. This technique is referred to as combinedlinear DFSE (CLDFSE). In this paper, we derive a tight upper bound on the error performan...

Performance Improvement of Mlse Receivers over Flat Fading Channels Using Time-averaged Channel Statistics

In this papec performance improvement of maximumlikelihood sequence estimation (MLSE) receivers operated in jut fading wireless cellular communication channels is investigated. The modijed receiver structure uses a channel classification method based on a decision variable obtainedfrom multiple traffic bursts. By formulating the decision variable using the F-distribution, analytic expressions f...

Extended MLSE Receiver for the Frequency-Flat, Fast Fading Channel

This paper develops an MLSE receiver for the frequency-flat, fast fading channel corrupted by additive Gaussian noise, when linear modulations (M-ASK, M-PSK, M-QAM) are employed. The paper extends Ungerboeck’s derivation of the Extended MLSE receiver for the purely frequency-selective channel to the time-selective channel. Although the new receiver’s structure and metric assume ideal channel st...

Split Mlse Adaptive Equalization in Severely Faded Rayleigh Mimo Channels

This paper presents an overview of adaptive equalization used in multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) wireless systems. In this paper, we consider two-user transmission over a Rayleigh frequency selective fading channel, in which the Channel State Information (CSI) is known by the receiver. Subject to an average transmit power constraint, we study the performance with Rayleigh fading. Besides ...

Space and path diversity: theoretical matched filter bound and comparison to diversity gain obtained with practical MLSE receivers

Performance of space diversity techniques is considered for transmissions in mobile radio environments. Optimal performances are derived for any multipath Rayleigh fading channel for Nth-order diversity whenever the signals delivered by the antennas are correlated or not. The proposed theoretical study, illustrated for 2PSK, is suitable for any other modulation schemes (constellation, symbol ra...
